Common Sense and Caution are Needed to Lead the Commonwealth not Gamblers
The budget finally passed, 18 days past the deadline. For the parents following at home can you imagine what happens when you file a financial aid form late? Of course there aren't any penalties for the state, but it does create a delay with tackling major bills. These people work fulltime. Why do the Massachusetts legislatures go up to the budget deadline and then typically go over? According to Michael P. Norton, State House News Service "Forty-six states will begin fiscal year 2019 on July 1, 2018, while New York began its fiscal year on April 1, Texas begins its fiscal year on Sept. 1 and Alabama and Michigan begin theirs on Oct. 1, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. As of June 15, 40 states have enacted budgets for fiscal 2019, including 16 states that enacted a two-year budget during their 2017 sessions." My father always taught me haste brings waste and they are wasting taxpayers time and money, a $5 billion interim budget to be precise and advances of local aid to communities that can demonstrate an emergency cash shortfall.
Now it's passed and the budget keeps daily fantasy betting legal in Massachusetts which makes sense since certain legislators are gambling that the capital gains windfall will be ongoing, just like they bet on a ballot initiative to impose a surtax on income over a million dollars and dedicate the money to transportation and education, which the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled the ballot was unconstitutional. I'm a business owner which often assumes I'm a risk taker. I'm financially conservative and I am not a gambler. I will bring to Beacon Hill the same common sense and financial expertise and optimism which made my company a national brand, I will not gamble the tax payers hard earn dollars.
