Cosmos Under-9 in Danvers Invitational
The Cosmos Boys U9 soccer team played at the Danvers tournament and came away with sportsmanship medals, a win, and a tie.

The Malden Youth Soccer Cosmos Boys U9 team participated in the Danvers Invitational Tournament over the Memorial Day Weekend. They went 1-1-2 on the weekend in the Boys U10 Division. On Saturday, the BU9 Cosmos earned a win against the Salem Warriors with standout goalie Logan Cargill posting a shut-out and earning the sportsmanship medal of the game. Owen Goodreau had an outstanding offensive performance in the game, at times taking on 2 opposing players and dribbling the ball into the offensive end of the field to set up his teammates for shots on net.
The second game on Saturday, against Danvers, was a nail biter that ended in a 2-2 tie. The Cosmos put a lot of pressure on the Danvers goal with shots by Jeremiah Moscote and Adin Pezo hitting the post several times. In the first half of the game, Steven Nunes scored first with a blistering shot to the top left corner of the net from 12 yards out to put the Cosmos up 1-0. With the score tied at half-time, Danvers put on the pressure and went up 2-1 early in the second half. Outstanding defensive plays by Nelson Amaya and Christian Salvador kept the Cosmos in the game, denying Danvers another chance to score. The Cosmos fought hard with Gerry Hamelin and Mariano Spadafora battling to try to maintain possession of the ball in the offensive end of the field. Finally, with 5 minutes left to play in the game the Cosmos tied it up on a beautiful arching shot from 18 yards out by Henrique Dias. The Sportsmanship Medal for the second game went to Steven Nunes for his consistent fair play during a hard fought game by both teams. Sportsmanship medals were awarded on Sunday to Mariano Spadafora and Adin Pezo for their courageousness and outstanding attitude on the field.
