The Righteous Gentile: A Holocaust Memorial Program

On Thursday evening, April 19, 2012, Congregation Agudas Achim – Ezrath Israel will be presenting a Holocaust Memorial program entitled, “The Righteous Gentile.”

These are stories of heroism and bravery by people in Europe who defied the Germans and helped many Jews hide for the duration of the war or leave Europe for safer shores.

There is the story of Irena Sendler, a woman who passed herself off as a plumber so that she could get into the Warsaw Ghetto and smuggle the children to safety.  There is the story of Stanislaw and Regina Swida who took in a Jewish child and passed him off as a Muslim to escape death.  These are but two of the four Righteous Among Nations that we will honor.

The evening’s program is sponsored by Congregation Agudas Achim – Ezrath Israel and Temple Tifereth Israel of Malden.  It will be an evening of solemn ceremony, but we also will celebrate the sacrifices that these Righteous Gentiles made for scores of Jewish families.
