Everett Man Wanted for Fatal Hit-and-Run Arrested in Texas

Jose Daniel Arevalo was wanted in connection with the fatal incident in Chelsea.

An Everett man wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run over in Chelsea in the summer has been arrested Thursday outside Houston, Texas, according to Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.

Jose Daniel Arevalo, 34, was taken into custody by Texas Rangers in connection with the June 4 death of 25-year-old Marco Salguero-Cruz.

Arevalo is expected to be returned to Massachusetts at a later date.

On June 4, Chelsea Police responded to the area of 284 Washington St. for a hit-and-run. Salguero-Cruz of Chelsea was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died.

Authorities recovered footage from multiple security cameras that showed a silver Toyota Camry allegedly involved in the crash. That footage yielded an an images of the driver, who was later identified after the images were released to the media in late November. A person familiar with Arevalo identified him after seeing the images and police idenfitied him through witness interviews, social media, and Registry of Motor Vehicle records.

It is believed Arevalo fled to El Salvador but returned to the United States last month.
