Free Fishing Derby For Melrose And Malden Residents Coming In May

Prizes will be given out for the biggest and smallest fish caught per age bracket as well as for the most total fish caught.

MALDEN, MA – A free and competitive fishing derby for Melrose and Malden residents aged two- to 14-years old will be held later this month.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 o.m. at Pine Banks Pond located at 1087 Main St. in Malden.

Registration for the event is required.

The fishing derby competition has six age brackets:
  • Ages 2-4
  • Ages 5 & 6
  • Ages 7 & 8
  • Ages 9 & 10
  • Ages 11 & 12
  • Ages 13 & 14

Prizes will be given out for the biggest and smallest fish caught per age bracket as well as for the most total fish caught. Staff and an official derby judge will be onsite to help with catch and release. Fishing lines and bait will be provided to attendees.

To register, please visit Maldenrec.com and select “Recreation Programs.” Then, community members will select “Malden Fishing Derby” under “Events.”
