REVERE, MA — The 2-month-old girl struck by a car when a woman drove into a group of pedestrians died Wednesday evening, the Suffolk County District Attorney said. Natasha Nicole Mejia-Rivera had been in critical condition ever since the crash, which happened on Route 145 in Revere.

Prosecutors said Harris told police she "may have nodded off" after getting two hours of sleep the night before, taking flexeril to help fall asleep. They also said she said she had a beer earlier in the afternoon and vaped cannabis oil in the vehicle. She was unable to take a breath test.

“Our priority right now is supporting a family who lost the center of their world in the blink of an eye,” said Pappas.

Multiple outlets citing family sources reported the girl succumbed to her injuries Tuesday, but the officials later said she was still in critical condition. DA John Pappas confirmed Thursday morning she has died.

"There are no words to describe our sorrow for this innocent child and her family," Pappas said. "We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and we will do our level best to speak on their behalf in the wake of this devastating tragedy."

A 30-year-old passenger in the car Harris was driving suffered potential minor injuries.

A GoFundMe established for the family has raised more than $28,000 as of Thursday morning.
