Malden Center Needs A Boost, It Seems

We asked what new businesses you'd like to see, and Malden Center was the target.

You sure know what you want, Malden. We asked you on Facebook Wednesday afternoon what businesses you'd like to see come into town. As of about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, more than 70 of you responded.

The most "liked" response suggested multiple options for Malden Center, such as Trader Joe's, "really good coffee shops," a sandwich chain like Panera or Au Bon Pain, and some small niche shops like a gift or novelty shop.

Many of the requests, in fact, were aimed at improving Malden Center. More casual sit-downs like a coffee shop (think Jitters down on Main St. in Melrose) or "upscale" restaurants were suggested.

One suggestion was a personal favorite Mexican restaurant, Tenoch. "Bookstore" was a popular response as well. And it seems some are still holding out hope for a small movie theater return.

"Parking," of course, was mentioned more than once.

Some decided to say what they wanted less of, including Chinese restaurants, 'vape stores,' and even smaller shops that have a high turnover rate.
