Young Victim Of Malden Drowning ID'd By Family

Authorities said a 5-year-old Malden boy's family reported him missing from Princeton Road; he was found nearby in a backyard pool.

MALDEN, MA — A 5-year-old boy died Thursday after being pulled from a backyard pool in a quiet Malden neighborhood, according to Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. Family members have identified the victim as Jeremiah Joseph.

Police responded to Princeton Road at about noon for a report of a missing child. Officers arrived to find the boy in a pool at a neighbor's home.

He was brought to MelroseWakefield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. Foul play was not suspected and there was no threat to the public, authorities said. Malden and state police were investigating the death.
