Malden Elections: What You Need To Run

Nomination papers will be available soon. Here's everything you need to know.

Nomination papers for Malden's November election will be available on Tuesday, June 20. The papers can be obtained at the City Clerk's office by a candidate or a person presenting signed authorization for a candidate. The last day to obtain papers is Friday, July 28, and the last day to submit them is Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Before obtaining papers a candidate must file with the Clerk's Office a statement containing his or her name and address and which office will be contested for. (Sign up for more local news by subscribing to Malden Patch.)

Before any voter sign a nomination paper, paperwork must be filled out with the candidate’s name and address as they appear on the 2017 voting list, and the office being pursued.

In order to run in Malden, you must be at least 18, an American citizen, and a registered voter in the ward you are running for.

The minimum number of signatures to be certified on nomination papers to place candidates on the ballot is as follows:

  • Ward Councillor: Signatures required 50; term 2 years, one Councillor is elected per ward
  • Councillor-At-Large: Signatures required 200; term 2 years; 3 Councillors-At-Large elected City wide
  • School Committee: Signatures required 50; term 2 years; one school committee member is elected per ward
