Malden Trick-or-Treating On Despite Scary Halloween Forecast

The Malden Chamber of Commerce has moved its annual Trick-or-Treat indoors, but self-organized trick-or-treaters can still brave the rain.

MALDEN, MA — Trick-or-treating will continue as scheduled in Malden this year, despite forecasts calling for a rainy Halloween. In addition to self-organized treks among groups of friends and families, children under 12 are invited to participate in the Malden Chamber of Commerce's Trick-or-Treat Event from 3-5 p.m.

The event's location has been changed to the Malden Senior Community Center at 7 Washington St.

The sun will set at 5:39 p.m. on Oct. 31, which means that the bulk of trick-or-treating will happen at night. The rain may also leave the roads and sidewalks slick. Those who plan on trick-or-treating should keep in mind the following safety tips from the Malden Police Department:

  • Be visible and wear reflective clothing and try to carry a flashlight/glow sticks.
  • Stick to the sidewalks & driveways
  • Don't wear masks while walking through the street. It'll make it harder to see.
  • Smaller children should be accompanied by an adult, and older children trick-or-treating by themselves should stay in groups.
  • Wait until you're home to so your parents or guardians can inspect your candy (parents take a peek in those pillow cases, pumpkins and bags of goodies).
  • Reminder to dial 911 during an emergency.

Drivers are advised to watch for children darting into the street, yield to pedestrians, use turn signals, turn hazard lights on during drop offs and pickups and wait to text until you've stopped.
