Captain Emily Hoffman scored first for the Tornadoes putting them in the lead going into the half. Just minutes into the second half, junior Elyse Valente scored her first of two goals giving Malden a 2-0 lead.

β€œThe defense played a great game with juniors Amanda Ramsey and Jessalynne Brown backing up goalie, Erika Hanson,” commented Coach Susan Famiglietti. β€œI was really proud how the team played today. We have been working hard on our passing and shooting skills and it really paid off today. Juniors Bridget Furlong and Marissa Lally have really been playing strong on the midfield line.”

Malden kept the pressure on the Revere net throughout the remainder of the game with additional goals scored by Rebecca Krigman and Stacey Sousa.

The team also tied Bedford, 0-0 on their last home game of the season on Friday, October 21st.

β€œCaptain Hoffman and Furlong did an exceptional job moving the ball up the field while our forward line took plenty of shots on the net, but we just couldn’t get the ball past the Bedford goalie,” cited Coach Famiglietti. β€œMidway through the second half, our top JV defender sophomore Julie Bourgea had to fill in for one of our starters. Julie has filled in for the varsity team a few times this season. Every time she has played for the varsity team she has made some impressive plays and has really held her own with some solid plays on the defensive end. Junior Erika Hanson made plenty of saves in the Malden net. Everything that we have been working on throughout the season was played perfectly on the field today.

All the players were passing, moving to the ball and making some great cuts on the field. They gave the spectators a great game. We will miss the leadership of our Captains Emily Hoffman, Stacey Sousa, and Kiara Amos and the athletic prowess of seniors Brittany Powers, Rebecca Krigman and Kevin Schlegel.”

Armed with silly goggles, chewed-in mouth guards, sweaty shin pads, tightly laced cleats, sticks, and balls the field hockey team made some noise, surprised some opponents, and turned some heads this season.

The program continues to grow and the team is improving with the passing of each year. The Malden High School Field Hockey finished their season just shy of .500.
