The girls started the week off in Methuen with a 0-0 tie. On Thursday, the team beat Swampscott 1-0.

"The girls played just perfect together tonight," Coach Kim Barber said. "There was passing, shooting, dodging, and everything was just coming together perfectly, they really played an outstanding game. There was not a stand-out tonight, everyone on the field played well.β
On rainy Friday evening, the girls lost 1-0 against Haverhill.

"It was our first time in the rain and it was pretty slippery out there, but the girls did well,β commented Barber. βIt's definitely a different game on the wet grass.β
Barber cited the play of the defensive players; sophomores Julie Bourgea, Tamires Matos and freshman Sammantha Dorazio.
"These girls are really helping out our goalies this year, playing great defense. Julie's experience is really helping the girls learn the new positions.β
Offensively, Barber cited the play of sophomores Kristen Leonard, Haley Sutera, Monica Joseph, and freshmen Robyn Santo and Casey Arsenault.
"My offensive line has the experience from Kristen and Haley combined with the new girls, Robyn, Monica, and Casey, who really want to learn the game and have worked hard in practice to get better. The team is really working together and playing well.β

Varsity Field Hockey
After two tough losses against Methuen and Swampscott, the Malden Varsity Field Hockey team ended the week on a high note defeating Haverhill Friday.
βThe team played a strong game throughout, with solid contributions from our midfielders, juniors Bridget Furlong, Marissa Lally, and senior Brittany Powers,β said Coach Susan Famiglietti.Β "The midfielders played a skilled game, feeding the ball to the forward line allowing them to take the shots on net to beat Haverhill 2-0."
Senior Rebecca Krigman scored both goals for the Tornadoes. Junior, Erika Hanson played an outstanding game in the net making nine saves to secure the shut out for Malden.
"We are very fortunate to have two experienced and extremely skilled goalies, Hanson and junior Emily Moran, on the team this year," Famiglietti said.Β
