Malden Kids Love Soccer

Registration is underway for Malden Youth Soccer.

[Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Malden Youth Soccer.]

Here are some examples of what young Malden players say they like best
about soccer.

"It's fun!"

"My friend from school plays on the purple team."

"I scored a goal!"

"My team is called 'Manchester United,' like the one my Dad and
I watch on TV."

Registration for the Spring Malden Youth Soccer U6-U8 season is open. U6
is for 4-6 year old children (birthdates 7/31/04 - 4/9/07). U8 is
for 6-8 year olds (birthdates 8/1/02 - 7/31/04). Sign up, so your
child can join the fun!

The Soccer Spring season runs 10 weeks. U6 plays on Saturday mornings at
Amerige, starting April 9. U8 plays on Sunday mornings at Callahan,
starting April 10.  Weekly sessions are 90 minutes for U6, and 2 hours
for U8. Each session is split between instruction and scrimmages among
the teams.

MYS parents like having their kids play soccer.

"Abdul has learned a lot this season."

"When we [Green Goblins] played the Burgundy Bears last week we
were very pleased with the coaches. They really involved the kids and made
it fun. They even seem to know all their names!"

"Susie told everyone in the neighborhood that she scored a goal
against the toughest team."

All MYS coaches have taken one or more Mass Youth Soccer certification
courses. One of the chief tenets of the courses is helping each child
improve, no matter what their level.

"During practice," says U6Coordinator David Cartledge, "we encourage each player to try to do better than they did the last time." U8 Coordinator Chuck Ioven adds, "if one succeeded in passing the ball accurately twice the first time, the next time the coach will challenge her to do it three times, while another player may be trying to improve from five to six."

One day last Fall, kids were asked, "what did you like best today?"

"My grandfather and grandmother came to watch me play soccer!"

"We played my friends team today...and we beat them!"

"Did you see me? I stopped the ball from going into the goal."

Malden Youth Soccer invites players of all skills levels to participate.
Whether your daughter or son has been kicking a ball since being able to
walk, or knows nothing about the sport, come play with us!
