Malden Looking To Fill Spots On 2 Commissions

MALDEN, MA — The city is looking to fill resident openings on two commissions. The Conservation Commission is seeking two members, and the Human Rights and Fair Housing Commission is seeking one member.

Conservation Commission
The Conservation Commission is a local board, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The Commission was established as a regulatory body administering the performance standards of the Wetlands Protection Act (Mass. General Laws c. 131, Section 40), the Rivers Protection Act and preserving the interests of conservation land. The Commission advises other city boards and officials on aspects of conservation and environmentally related issues. Appointees are elected to two-year terms. Although the Commission meets as needed, meetings are held on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM.

Human Rights and Fair Housing Commission
Members of the Commission work to ensure that all residents, regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, age, ancestry, sexual preference, familial status, marital status, veteran status, or physical, mental or emotional capacity or disability, are afforded equal opportunity in or access to credit eligibility, employment, housing, education, recreation, public accommodations, public services and licensing, and shall minimize unlawful discrimination by encouraging mutual understanding among all residents.
The Commission is comprised of seven individuals with varied backgrounds who have knowledge of existing resources, an understanding of how regional systems function, and who have experience with fair housing and discrimination issues. Three members are appointed by the Mayor and four are appointed by the City Council and include a representative of the Malden Housing Authority, a Malden-based representative of the National Association of Realtors, a representative of the Chamber of Commerce, a representative of a Malden-based disability advocacy organization, a representative of a Malden-based organization providing services to elders, and two resident members, one appointed by the Mayor and one by the City Council. Resident members may serve for one year from date of appointment.
