Malden Police Arrest 15-Year-Old on Weapons Charges

Malden police arrested the minor on multiple weapons charges after a traffic stop on April 1.

MALDEN, MA—Malden Police arrested a 15-year-old Chelsea male on weapons charges on the evening of April 1.

According to Capt. Marc Gatcomb, officers Larry McGahey and Steven Munyon observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of the Medford St. intersection. The officers later reported that the driver and passengers were not wearing seat belts, and proceeded to pull the vehicle over.

Gatcomb told Patch that officers were trying to determine whether or not the vehicle had been stolen, due to stories from driver Angel Mejia of Chelsea allegedly not matching up. Officers then reportedly frisked the driver and the passengers, finding a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number in the waistband of a 15-year-old Chelsea male.

The minor was charged with carrying without a license, the unlawful possession of ammunition and the possession of an illegal knife. Mejia was also charged with the operating a vehicle without a driver's license, speeding and a seat belt violation.

Police are still investigating to see whether the vehicle may have been stolen, according to Gatcomb.
