Malden Police Partnering With Boston Children's For Community Blood Drive

MALDEN, MA — The police department is partnering with Boston Children's Hospital to host a community blood drive next month, with residents invited to donate blood to help pediatric patients in need.

The blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Malden police headquarters on 800 Eastern Ave.

According to the department, a single blood donation can help save lives and provide hope to children and families receiving care at Boston Children's Hospital. Officials are encouraging eligible donors to participate.

Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled through Boston Children's Hospital's HalfPints blood donor program online or by calling 617-355-6677. Residents registering online should use the sponsor code MALPOL.

Boston Children's Hospital's Blood Donor Center was established in 1958 and supplies virtually all of the blood and blood products used at the hospital. Through the HalfPints program and traveling Bloodmobile, the hospital partners with municipalities, schools, businesses, and community organizations across the state to host blood drives.

Donated blood supports children undergoing cancer treatment, heart surgery, organ transplants, and treatment for genetic blood disorders that require regular transfusions. A typical whole blood donation takes less than an hour and can help as many as four pediatric patients.
