Malden Priorities Addressed In State Budget

State Senator Jason Lewis announced some of the Malden-centric priorities in the budget passed by the Senate.

MALDEN, MA – State Senator Jason Lewis announced some of the Malden-centric priorities that are being addressed as the Senate passed its version of the Fiscal Year 2018 state budget.

The following budget amendments were secured, Lewis' office said:

"$100,000 for the Starr Wellness Center at Malden High School, an important satellite outpatient clinic particularly for young people who cannot easily access care outside of school;

$100,000 for Malden-based Housing Families’ GREAT Youth and Families Program, providing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral support to young people outside of school; and,

$100,000 for Malden-based Triangle Inc.’s School-to-Career Program that connects special education students with disabilities in Greater Boston to careers in their local communities."

A final budget will now be hashed out between the Senate and House conference committees.

"These vital Malden-based programs not only provide critical support to young people and vulnerable populations, but they are also initiatives with proven records of success," said Lewis in a release. "These investments in the education, wellness, and professional abilities of those who utilize these services and programs will pay immeasurable dividends toward enhancing their quality of life and will help them to realize their full potential."
