Malden Public Library Will Show Oscar-winning Best Picture of the Year

Join us for Movie Night at the Malden Public Library on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, from 6:00-8:00pm. We will be showing the Oscar-winning Best Picture of the Year about the Spotlight Boston Globe journalist team, who delved into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church and uncovered a “decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishments.” The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, and Liev Schreiber.

In 2001, The Boston Globe’s Spotlight team began investigating a priest, Father John Geoghan, who was accused of molesting more than 80 kids. As the team digs deeper into the investigation, they discover information that “rock[s] the city and cause[s] a crisis in one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions.” The film is based on a true story. Winning Oscars for both Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, the movie is described by USA Today as “a masterpiece,” and by Rolling Stone, as “a landmark film.” A.O. Scott of The New York times writes that the movie “is a gripping detective story and a superlative newsroom drama.” Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 96% approval rating.
