Malden Sports Roundup: Mystic Valley Lacrosse Remains Undefeated

The Mystic Valley lacrosse team improved to 5-0 this week.

The Mystic Valley Eagles boys lacrosse team improved its record to 5-0 with three big wins this week.

After beating Whittier Tech 19-1 on Monday, the Eagles beat Lynn Tech 16-1 under the lights at the Manning Bowl in Lynn on Thursday night.

Senior goalie John Dionstopped all six shots that he faced in the first half and the Eagles went into halftime with a commanding 13-0 lead. Zak Stour played well between the pipes in the second half and only surrendered a man down goal. The offense was lead by Taylor Roseen, Evan Dolber, Kyle Finch, Jimmy Rossi and Robby DeSantis. Jayden Jean finished with one goal and one assist while Brendan Hogan and Patrick Kinnon eachscored lone goals in the victory. 

On Friday, Mystic Valley racked up the points once again, beating Nashoba Valley, 19-9 behind Taylor Roseen's seven goals and five assists.

Mystic Valley Track Drops Opener

The Mystic Valley Track team lost its first meet to Greater Lowell on Tuesday. The girls lost 70-63 while the boys lost 81-55.

The girls were led by Ariana Mirzakashani who finished first in the discus, high jump and 400M run. Soraya Cabellero finished first in the 800 while Fallon Bushee and Emily Moran won the one mileand two miles runs.

The boys were paced by first place finishes by Ben Bottrell, high jump and low hurdles, GiuseppeIacovone long jump, James Tran high hurdles, Klysman Afonso 100, Ricky Yu 400 and javelin andColin Kinnon in the two mile.

Mystic Valley Baseball Starts Season 1-1

 Mystic Valley’s baseball team got off to a good start with a 14-6 win over Lynn Tech last Saturday in the NE Metro tournament. Pat Holden led the way pitching five strong innings and picking up the win while recording 9 K's. Pat also went 2-for-3 with a homerun and four RBI.  Greg Statho had a good day at the plate as well going 2-for-3 with a homerun.The Eagles lost 6-5 in the championship game of the tournament on Sunday afternoon. 

The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Joey Foley hit a two-run home run to put the Eagles up 5-4.  Mystic Valley had its chances but failed to get any insurance runs which ended up costing them in the end.  North East got their leadoff runner on in the seventh and then hit a two-run homer to give them the lead.  Mystic Valley stranded the tying run at second base in the bottom of the seventh.
