Malden Welcomes Medical Imaging Company

A new private company has settled into its Dartmouth Street location.

The following is from the City of Malden:

Mayor Gary Christenson recently attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at Tomophase, Inc., a private company founded in 2003 whose goal it is to provide innovative solutions for unmet medical needs through the use of light-based imaging and therapy. Located at 17 Dartmouth Street, Tomophase is a subsidiary of China-based Guangdong Winstar Medical Technology Company. The grand opening was attended by company Vice President David Gao and potential investors from China’s Guangzhou Development Zone Industry Development Group. The Malden location opening signifies Winstar’s plans to expand its business in the United States.

Tomophase has developed and patented technology in the field of optical coherence tomography (OCT) which is capable of delivering high quality, high resolution cross-sectional tissue images in real-time. With this technology, tissue structure can be observed up to 2-3 millimeters below the surface with remarkable clarity without the need for biopsy or the use of radiation, UV light or image contrast agents. Tomphase intends to utilize the application of this innovative technology in pulmonary medicine for the tomographic imaging of airways and pulmonary tissue. This technology will allow clinicians, for the first time, to visualize such micro-anatomic features in an effort to facilitate or improve many of the interventional procedures and therapeutic approaches in pulmonology. Further development may also lead to tools for improving the management of lung cancer as well as applications in other fields of medicine.
