To fix city roads and bridges damaged by this winter’s momentous heaps of snow, Malden’s getting a little help from the state.

As part of the Governor’s Office’s $30 million Winter Recovery Assistance Program (WRAP), Malden has been allocated nearly $138,000. A press release from State Senator Jason Lewis explains that these funds are designated for fixing potholes, cracked pavement, repaving projects, road sign repair or replacement, as well as fixing guardrails, storm drains, and line stripping.

“The record-setting winter from which we are still thawing out has put a tremendous strain on our communities’ budgets,” said Senator Lewis in his office’s missive. “I’m pleased to see the City of Malden receiving this important funding to assist with urgently-needed infrastructure repairs.”

Massachusetts WRAP funds are being doled out according to the weighed average of a city or town’s population, employment, and mileage of road. Whatever infrastructure repairs Malden needs completed must be done by June 30 in order to make the deadline for invoicing to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
