Mystic Valley fifth grader Menel Lamadzema recently won the North Shore Girls Basketball Free Throw Shooting contest. Menel is a standout player on Mystic Valley’s fifth and sixth grade girls’ basketball team. Assistant Coach, Burt Shapiro, was not surprised that  Menel won the shooting contest as ”she works very hard at our team practices and she also works on her shooting daily at the Malden Y.”

Menel also attends summer basketball camp each year.

“She was the team’s leading scorer despite only being a fifth grader and she gets along well with all of her team mates” added Coach Shapiro.

Menel had tickets to go to Celtics game but decided to enter the competition instead. She told her mother, "Mom, we went to many games and we will go to many I would love to go and represent MVRCS in the Free Throw Competition.”

The victory came on the day after her birthday, providing a nice icing on the cake.
