Movie Night At The Malden Public Library

Free Summer Movie Night!

Join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 6:00-8:15pm. We will be showing a recent movie based on a true story in the book, Lion, by Saroo Brierley. The film stars Dev Patel, Sunny Pawar, Rooney Mara, and Nicole Kidman. The movie was nominated for six Oscars.

This summer, Malden Public Library is holding a Summer Reading program with the theme of “Build A Better World.” This film examines some of the ideas in helping to build a better world—hunger, homelessness, adoption, mental illness, cultural identity, resilience, and overcoming adversity.

In 1986 Khandwa, India, five year old Saroo and his older brother Guddu, help their mother make ends meet by stealing and selling coal to help feed their family. In a tragic mix-up, Saroo (Sunny Pawar/Dev Patel), accidentally gets lost on speeding train traveling over 1,000 miles to Calcutta. He arrives hungry, alone, confused, and not understanding the language. Eventually he gets adopted by a couple in Australia, where he starts his new life.
