Join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from
6:00-8:15pm. We will be showing a recent movie based on the true story
of James Bowen in his bestselling book, A Street Cat Named Bob. The
movie stars Luke Treadaway and Bob The Cat.
This summer, Malden Public Library is holding a Summer Reading program
with the theme of “Build A Better World.” This film examines some of
the ideas in helping to build a better world—hunger, homelessness, drug
addiction, recovery, overcoming adversity, and second chances.
James Bowen, a homeless London busker and recovering drug addict, tries
to make ends meet by playing songs for people on the streets when a
stray orange cat that he names Bob shows up in his life.

The Los Angeles Times writes that the movie is “A rewarding unassuming,
tough and tender portrait of a drug-addicted London busker whose
ill-fated life takes a surprising turn after a ginger tabby turns up in
his kitchen.” And the New York Times adds it is “inspirational feel-good
cinema lightly seasoned with grit.”
