National Public Health Week Resource Fair on Tuesday April 6 at the Malden Public Library

Children and parents are invited to attend to learn more about healthy eating and active living.

Malden, Mass. – CHA’s Malden Community Health Improvement Team, a collaborative initiative of the Cambridge Health Alliance, the City of Malden and members of the community, are hosting a special children’s story hour on Tuesday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Malden Library located at 36 Salem Street in celebration of National Public Health Week. Children and parents are invited to attend to learn more about healthy eating and active living.

During the first full week of April each year, the American Public Health Association (APHA) brings together communities across the country to observe National Public Health Week as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving overall community health. This year’s overarching theme is “Healthiest Nation 2030.” One of the strategies to achieve this is to “Give Everyone a Choice for Healthy Food,” which draws attention to youth nutrition. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows most children don’t eat enough fruits, vegetables or whole grains, with many exceeding the recommended maximum daily intake of sodium and sugar.

On Wednesday April 6 CHA, along with community partners, including Farmer Dave’s and WIC will be holding an event with activities, resources for parents and light refreshments at the Malden Public Library starting at 2:00 p.m. Mayor Gary Christenson will be reading “I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato” to youth gathered to highlight the theme of the year.
