Catherine I. Vining, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.
Catherine was born in Malden in 1928, the daughter of Gordon and Margaret (Rundle) Keddy. She was raised and educated in Malden, and in 1947, she married her sweetheart, Robert H. Vining. The two settled down in Malden to raise their children. The two shared 56 years of marriage together until Roberts passing in 2004.

For many years, Catherine worked as a nurse’s aide at different nursing homes in the Malden area, including the Bartlett Nursing Home, Summer Street Nursing Home and the Buchanon Nursing Home. She retired at the age of 62. After her retirement, she continued to keep busy by volunteering at the Malden Hospital for several years.
She was a longtime member of the First Nazarene Church of Malden, a member of the American Legion in Malden, a member of the Senior Club at 557 Pleasant and a member of the AARP.

She is survived by her children, Linda L. Strum of Somersworth, New Hampshire, Robert Vining Jr. of Derry, New Hampshire, Margaret K. Soldano of Medford, Bruce W. Vining of Boxford, Dorothy H. Kirwin of Melrose, Mariann K. Brander of Billerica, Donna R. Blundell of Malden and Joanne L. Vining of Malden, her brother, Donald R. Keddy of Malden, her 21 grandchildren and her 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 529 Eastern Ave., Malden, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Following the church service, there will be a gathering at Anthony’s Restaurant, 105 Canal St., Malden, to share in fellowship. Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4-8 p.m.
