Obituary For Joseph Surette, Malden Native
Visitation is this Thursday at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, and committal and graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 30th.

Joseph Surette, of Saugus, passed away on Monday, May 21st, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Joe was born in Malden, where he was raised and educated. It is also where he met his future wife Hilda at the age of 12. Joe and Hilda were married in January of 1944 in Malden. They first lived together in Malden before moving to Saugus over 50 years ago. They shared over 68 years together and only 12 days apart with Hilda’s passing 12 days ago.
Joe had worked for the Nefore Sheet Metal Company as a Sheet Metal Foreman, for over 30 years until health issues forced his retirement in 1985. Joe had a knack for fixing things, and enjoyed browsing flea markets for fixable items. He would also help friends and neighbors with things that needed repair. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them and attending their many sporting events.

He is survived his children Ronald C. Surette of Saugus, Thomas W. Surette of Malden, and Charlotte M. Leger of Saugus, his brother, Paul Surette, of NH, his very dear friends, Phyllis and Jackie Rubner, and Margaret D’Enturmont, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild
Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Hilda who passed away on May 9, 2012, after 68 years of marriage, his son, Joseph C. Surette, his granddaughter, Charlene Surette, his sister, Evelyn Frost, and his brothers, Gerald and James Surette.

Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Thursday, May 24th, from 4-8 p.m., with a Prayer service at 7:30 p.m.. Committal services will be held on Wednesday, May 30th from the funeral home at 10 a.m. for a graveside service at Holy Cross Mausoleum, on Wednesday, May 30th, at 11 a.m.. In recognition of the caring and compassionate care given to Joe, in lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to: Sawtelle Family Hospice House,320 Haverhill St, Reading, MA 01867.
