Obituary: Mark Thurlow, Malden Native, Veteran

Thurlow died Tuesday, Jan. 6, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark A. Thurlow, of Marlborough, formerly of Malden, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 6, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born and raised in Malden. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and helped our country’s fight during Operation Desert Storm. He served two tours in the Army before being honorably discharged. Mark had worked for KPM Demo in Haverhill and for McLean Concrete in Hudson, New Hampshire. He also was a security guard at Gillette Stadium.

After his tours of duty, Mark became a member of the Am/Vets #208 of Marlborough. He also enjoyed traveling to Vermont to visit family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia M. (Cummisky), his children Christopher Thurlow of North Carolina, Elizabeth Miner of Florida, Rose Marie Torres of Hudson, Brittany Thurlow of North Carolina and F. Michael Torres of Marlborough. Cherished brother of Matthew Thurlow of New Hampshire and Tina Hill of Allston, he is also survived by his grandchildren Mya, Jaysean, Javian, Jocelyn and Brianna, his mother-in-law Kathleen Green of Vermont, father-in-law Thomas Cummisky of Marlborough, his brothers-in-law Thomas Cummisky of Marlborough and Richard Green of Vermont and his sister-in-law Lois Cummisky of Marlborough, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Peter D. Thurlow and Mary A. (Devanna), his brothers Timothy Flynn and Thomas Flynn and his sisters Kathleen Flynn and Donna Driscoll.

Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, Jan. 9, at 9 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial in Sacred Hearts Church, Malden, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 4 – 8 p.m.
