Obituary: Sonya Carroll, 39, of Malden
A memorial service for Carroll will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Patrick's Church in Stoneham.

The following is from Barile Family Funeral Homes.
Sonya Leanne “Foo” Carroll, a resident of Malden for the last seven years, passed away suddenly at home while courageously battling an inherited disease known as Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
Sonya was born in Florence, Alabama, on Jan. 9, 1975. Spending all of her childhood in the Tampa and St. Petersburg area of Florida, Sonya moved to Boston in 2007 where she lived with her life partner and best friend. Dedicated to her continual knowledge of Spirituality, walking the life of Christ, Sonya committed herself to her work. Her most recent position at the Edinburg Center in Lexington with persons of mental health conditions, substance use conditions and/or developmental disabilities was her life dream. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Casual nights of Texas Hold’em, followed by feasts of Sonya’s homemade Southern cooking was a common day in the life of Sonya. Goodnight my sweet Rapunzel.
She is survived by her partner of nine years, Elisabeth “Lisa” Tortora, their adopted son Michael Benz, her best friend Teresa Villarreal and her siblings, James Carroll, Jimmy Carroll, Tasha Carroll, Jennifer Ogles, her sissy Michele Luna, and nieces and nephews plus countless loving friends from all around the world. Her four-legged children, Prissy, Zeus, Lycan and her grandpuppy Toby will terribly miss all her homemade puppy snacks.
