Thomas R. McGillicuddy, of Malden, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Thomas was born and raised in Boston. At the age of 13, Thomas suffered and accident that left him completely blind. That didn’t stop him from attending and graduating from Catholic Memorial High School in Boston. He then continued onto Stonehill College in Easton, where he graduated with the Class of 1969. He then attended Suffolk University School of Law where he graduated with the Class of 1971. He immediately took employment as an Attorney/Advisor with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He worked there for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2009.

In 1994, Thomas married his sweetheart, Lauren E. (Hassen) Page. The two first lived in Brookline before buying a house in Malden in 2007.
Thomas was a devoted sports fan, and would often multitask by listening to a game in one ear and to his wife with the other. He was also always very well read in the matters of politics and modern history.

He is survived by his wife Lauren E. (Hassol) McGillicuddy, his step-son Keith W. Page and wife Heidi Schmidt of Malden, his brothers Paul McGillicuddy and wife Geri of California, Peter McGillicuddy and wife Carolyn of Dedham and Mark McGillicuddy and wife Jean of Milton, his step-grandson Leonard L. Pages. Also survived by his six nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services will be held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 26 Washington St., Malden, on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, Jan. 23, from 4-8 p.m.
