Online Travel Mag Mocks Malden

There’s nothing unusual about having a love/hate attitude about your hometown. Of course, some people lean harder toward the dark side of the spectrum than others.

The online travel and food magazine Thrillist published an article titled “Does Your Boston Suburb Suck? An Investigation,” that mixes good-humored ribbing with occasionally tasteless slights from former (current?) Boston suburbanites. For better or worse, it critiques a substantial portion of Eastern Mass. towns.

Here’s what Thrillist had to say about Malden....

“Everyone you’ve ever met from Malden is named Scotty, wears tracksuit sweatpants all day, and still maintains a strong MySpace presence.”

What do you think? Do you refute this generalization? Are you known by a name other than Scotty? Did you delete your MySpace account five years ago like most of the world? Do you, in fact, wear many different kinds of pants?

Or, perhaps there is truth to Thrillist’s accusation? ‘Cause if you are a track suit-wearing MySpace holdout named Scotty, we probably want to interview you about this.
