The library’s children’s room serves as a hub for kid activities, though the fun sometimes spill into the Maccario Room and other spaces where the noise won’t bother those reading downstairs.

If you’re looking for outdoors fun, you needn’t go far. Malden has a great set of neighborhood parks. But a short drive to the west side takes you to , where families can have a picnic, walk the trails and enjoy the geese, ducks and other water fowl hanging out by the pond.

During the warmer months, two fountains in the water will charm your kids. The space also has a protected bluff for dynamite views of the area.

The fun doesn’t end when the leaves fall, however. Fellsmere Pond is Malden’s unofficial sledding Mecca, with kids of all ages braving the slopes of Seven Hills. The rolling hill offers short, safe runs for younger kids, and steep, bumpy rides for the more adventurous older kids.
