The Punishment For Man Who Stole Police's Hockey Stick Is...

Malden Police arrested the Hingham man for stealing a tribute hockey stick.

MALDEN, MA — The Hingham man who stole a tribute hockey stick from in front of the Malden Police station will buy the department a new one as part of his punishment. Police said Thursday that William Iaconelli, 53, will donate $1,000 to a concussion nonprofit raising awareness for youth sports injuries and charity for the Humboldt Broncos, the junior hockey team that suffered a bus crash in which 16 died. Iaconelli will also write a letter of apology.

Police, the DA, and Iaconelli made the suggested punishment to a judge, police said.

Police arrested Iaconelli this week after he stole a hockey stick donated by the son of a police officer. The stick was affixed with a logo in memory of the Broncos. The stick had been out there since April 11.
