Researchers Break Distance Record For Transmission Of Quantum Data

Humans are like cavemen playing with fire. Quantum data transfer will be good for something in the future, but right now, we have no real idea how it works. We’ve increased the physical distance that we can manipulate photonic data through quantum entanglement to 60 miles? Wow. It’s like the early days of the telegraph. I could see us some day having instantaneous communications with a human colony on Mars or further. Reliably manipulating quantum entanglements at greater distances sounds like a paradoxical thing to say, since we don’t fully understand the teleportation aspect, but this will definitely lead to incredible communications breakthroughs in the future.
“Teleportation is useful in both quantum communications and quantum computing, which offer prospects for novel capabilities such as unbreakable encryption and advanced code-breaking, respectively,” the authors of the study detailing the findings, published Wednesday in the journal Optica, said in a statement.
I foresee a day, when we won’t have to deal with making personal computers faster in order to process data, games and communications. But actually finding ways to slow down the information output from computers so that our human brains can process what we see on our screens.
