Malden Recount Results In Ward 2 School Committee Race

Did the recount change the outcome?

MALDEN, MA — The recount Monday evening for Ward 2 School Committee did not change the outcome. The November 7 winner by two votes, and Robert McCarthy has now officially won by three votes over incumbent Emmanuel Marsh. McCarthy will be inaugurated in January with the new School Committee and new City Council.

November 7 results came in with 421 votes for McCarthy, and 419 votes for Marsh, with an additional 3 write-ins and 23 blanks. The two point difference is not an automatic recount, and was requested by Marsh’s camp.

Local political observer, Nicholas Forgione, remarked about the process, "The recount is an example of the transparency and public engagement that exemplify what is best in local politics."
