SafetyNet by LoJack will be hosting an event to expand the SafetyNet Service to the Malden community on Saturday, May 10 from 9:00 a.m-1:00 p.m. at the Forestdale School (77 Sylvan Street). At the event, the SafetyNet by LoJack™ will be introduced to all Malden residents, specifically families of children and adults suffering from special needs, through the collaborative effort of the Malden SEPAC Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC), the Mayor’s Office, Malden Police and Malden Fire Departments.
This event is open to all and is of special interest to those parents and caretakers who have 24/7 watch on a loved one with special needs that can be at risk for running away. Ralph Poland, Law Enforcement Liaison for SafetyNet by LoJack, will be presenting on how the technology works and the importance of being able to locate loved ones. In addition, Malden Recreation’s Coordinator, Joe Levine, and his high school trained athletes from Unified Sports, will be there to play sports with the students from 10:00-11:30. Mr. Levine would encourage all families with special needs children to participate in this fun event.
SafetyNet is a radio frequency (RF) location device that was designed to help families assist children with special needs as well as adults suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. The tracking device is a bracelet that is worn by the individual either the wrist or the ankle. In the unfortunate event, a parent or caretaker realizes a loved one is missing, they can contact the authorities immediately and trained search and rescue teams track the radio frequency signal that is being emitted from the bracelet. This radio frequency technology can work in densely wooded areas, buildings, and shallow water. In addition, all responders are trained on how to effectively communicate with people who have cognitive conditions.
