Lewis Spent 4 Times More Than Hammar In State Sen. Primary Race
In the Fifth Middlesex District state senate primary, the incumbent Jason Lewis spent nearly $120,000, according to campaign finance reports

State Sen. Jason Lewis spent nearly four times as much as challenger Sam Hammar in campaigning for next week's Democratic primary in the Fifth Middlesex District, according to campaign finance information filed Monday.
Lewis, the incumbent, spent $119,335, while Hammar spent $30,877. That far exceeds the statewide ratio of Senate and House incumbents outspending primary challengers 2.5:1.
Lewis's campaign reported $66,689 in receipts, the majority of which came from his hometown of Winchester and Boston. Hammar's campaign reported $45,358.37, the majority of which came from her hometown of Melrose.

Lewis is the only incumbent state senator in Massachusetts facing a challenge in both the primary and general elections.

Erin Calvo-Bacci, a Republican from Reading, will likely await the winner of the Sept. 4 primary. Calvo-Bacci is running unopposed next week. Calvo-Bacci spent $4,617.19, according to finance reports.
The finance filings cover Jan. 1 to Aug. 17.
