Unsafe Lead Levels Found At Malden Park
A portion of the park is closed because it "presents a potential hazard to public health and safety."
MALDEN, MA — High lead levels were found in part of Roosevelt Park, according to the Malden Redevelopment Authority. Testing being done in conjunction with improvements to the park revealed high levels within 12 inches of the surface.
The affected area is the infield part of the softball field closest to the Salemwood School field house and the outdoor classroom in the southeast corner of the park, the Redevelopment Authority said.
In a public notice, the Authority said the levels present a "potential hazard to public health and safety." The affected part of the park and the outdoor classroom will remain closed until improvements are completed. Fencing will be put in place around the impacted areas.
