Video: Malden High School Hosts Crew Teams on Malden River

The banks of the Malden River bustled with crew teams and fans on Sunday for a regatta hosted by the  crew team and the Gentle Giant Rowing Club.

Teams from eight towns, including Somerville and Medford, competed in the event, which also attracted teams from as far away as Maine.

"This is the first time it's been so big," MHS crew coach Sarah Jones said. 

Rich Whelan, a member of the board of directors of Gentle Giant Rowing Club, said regattas on the Malden River are good for the river and the surrounding cities.

"It's good to use the river," Whelan said.
