Whip Clark Statement on House Republicans' Passage of the Default on America Act
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement on House Republicans' passage of the Default on America Act:
“For every senior, every veteran, and every family across the country, I am disgusted by the House Republicans’ reckless vote today. The Default on America Act takes food off kitchen tables, pulls kids out of child care, evicts families from their homes, and tears hard-earned health benefits away from our veterans.
“What’s more, Republicans are attempting to force these devastating cuts on the American people by taking our economy hostage. Instead of having a responsible conversation about the debt ceiling and future spending, the MAGA Majority is using the threat of default to extort the very people we are here to serve.

“Today, House Democrats stood united against this brinkmanship and in defense of everyday families. There’s a simple, urgent solution in front of us: take a clean, unconditional vote to avoid default, then send the President a budget that puts People Over Politics.”
