Whip Clark Statement on U.S. Debt Ceiling Deadline

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) issued this statement after Treasury Secretary Yellen warned the U.S. could hit its borrowing limit as soon as June 1, 2023:

“Time is running out. Republicans must stop holding the American people hostage and take urgent action to prevent default – just as we did three times during the Trump administration. If they continue to recklessly put politics over people, it's everyday families who will pay the price.”
