Workshop for Submitting Artists for "Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed"
CALL TO ARTISTS to create artwork inspired by the music Pictures at an Exhibition. Deadline August 16. Workshop June 11.

A Call to Artists: “Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed”
Join in a community celebration of composer Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” as played by award-winning pianist Yelena Beriyeva with “Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed”, a juried art exhibit, concert and dramatic presentation coming to Malden in November. Using various media to enhance the in-person art experience, “Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed” is an immersive cultural experience like none other and it’s looking for artists to help fulfill the vision.
“Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed” is calling artists from around the Greater Boston area to submit visual art reflective of Mussorgsky’s suite of ten movements for the piano, “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Juried artwork will be displayed at the “Pictures at an Exhibition Reframed” opening gala where Beriyeva will perform Mussorgsky’s piece on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Jenkins Auditorium in Malden as select artwork submissions are projected in a slide show. The event will also include a dramatic presentation inspired by the friendship between Mussorgsky and his artist friend, Viktor Harmann. Accepted artists’ work will continue to be exhibited after the performance in the gallery at MATV, Malden’s Media Center, until January 12, 2017.

Interested Artists are strongly encouraged to come to a private workshop on Saturday, June 11, 1-3pm at the Third Life Studio in Somerville when Beriyeva will play "Pictures at an Exhibition" with breaks for comments about the music and interactive discussion after each movement. Though not required, this free workshop will help artists appreciate Beriyeva’s perspective and artistic interpretation as her specific sensibility around each movement will inform the judging process. Participants must register at http://picturesreframed.bpt.me to attend this workshop, as space is limited. Artists will then have until Sunday, August 14, 2016 to create artwork in response to Beriyeva’s live performance and submit for judging. Jurors include well established and versatile artists Lisa L. Sears and Elizabeth Scorsello along with celebrated cartoonist, Keith Knight. All Artists who submit artwork will be given a free ticket to the opening gala on Saturday, November 5, 2016.
