Wounded Veteran Bike Ride to Pass Through Malden

MALDEN, MA — Malden will once again host part of the annual Wounded Vet Run motorcycle ride. The event will take place Sunday, May 21, beginning at noon. Riders will soon thereafter make way through Malden.

The ride involves a large number of participants. There will be significant traffic delays. You should seek alternate routes between the hours of noon-2.

The route is as follows: Squire Road to Beach Street, bear left onto Salem Street. Continue straight ahead into Maplewood Square and take a right onto Lebanon Street. Left onto Sylvan Street to Forest Street. Left on Forest to Main Street. Left on Main Street and an immediate right onto Winter Street. Over the bridge and right onto Washington Street eventually turning right onto Fellsway East in Melrose.

The bike run, which started in 2011, was inspired by Cpl. Vincent Mannion Brodeur. Brodeur was critically injured by an IED while serving in Iraq in 2007, spending a year in a coma and undergoing 40 operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

All proceeds from Vinnie’s Run went to creating a handicapped accessible living space for Vinnie. Every year Boston’s Wounded Vet Run will be dedicated to different veterans, with proceeds going toward housing modifications and other help for a disabled veteran. Besides housing modifications, funds are also used to improve the quality of life of disabled veterans. The event is sponsored by the Italian-American War Veterans, a federally chartered non-profit veterans organization.
