5 Things You Need to Know About Tonight's Mansfied/North Quincy D1 South Championship Game

1. Time and Place

The Hornets will play at 8 p.m. tonight at UMass Boston. To get there from Mansfield, simply take Route 95 north to Route 93. From 93, take Exit 14 to Morrissey Blvd. From there, take a right into UMass Boston when you see the school's sign and drive around to the other end of the campus until you see the Clark Center. Parking is available in the lots surrounding the gym for $6. The Mansfield High School Athletics Department recommends arriving at UMass Boston an hour early to ensure you are in your seat by tip-off.

2. Ticket Prices

Admission is $7 for students and $10 for adults. All tickets must be purchased at the venue and cannot be obtained in advance.

2. Who Are They Playing?

Standing between Mansfield and their second sectional title in three years is #6 North Quincy. The Red Raiders upset #2 Newton North in the semi-finals 51-47 to get to the championship match.

Senior guard Dan Gould played a big part in the upset, scoring seven of his 23 points in the opening minute against the Tigers in a game where the Red Raiders never trailed.

3. Match-up to Watch

The guard match-up of Gould vs. Rocky DeAndrade could be an interesting one to watch. Both have the ability to take over the game when they need to on offense and defense.

Against Newton North, a late seal by Gould on a Tigers' inbounds pass forced Newton North to foul and send Gould to the free throw line to lock up the win.

In the first two rounds, DeAndrade was there to pick up the Hornets when they needed it including a little 4-0 run late in the fourth against Franklin to close a three point deficit. Later in overtime, the junior guard sank a three-pointer to give Mansfield a six point lead with less than a minute to play.

3. Endless Weapons for Mansfield

In each game this postseason, there has been a different hero for the Hornets, showing their depth.

Aside from DeAndrade, Greg Romanko has been known to kick start the Hornets' offense in the first half and Ryan Boulter had his first big game of the postseason against Brookline with a 14 point first quarter that included four baskets from beyond the three-point line.

Of course, there is also Hockomock League MVP Brendan Hill. While Hill is known to pass first then shoot second, don't underestimate his ability to take over the game and put the team on his shoulders.
