Man Pleads Not Guilty To Crashing Into Mansfield Home While Drunk

Police said he struck a utility pole and then a fire hydrant before driving his pickup truck into the house.

ATTLEBORO, MA — An Attleboro man pleaded not guilty in District Court Tuesday to accusations he drove drunk and crashed into a house on Route 106 in Mansfield.

Mathew D'Amato, 38 was arrested around 12:45 a.m., Saturday after police said he struck a utility pole and then a fire hydrant before driving his pickup truck into the house.

The foundation of the Chauncy Street home was cracked upon impact, according to police. No injuries were reported.

After assessing the damage, police estimated D'Amato was driving up to 70 mph. D'Amato's charges include driving under the influence and driving to endanger. He also was cited for traffic violations including speeding and failing to drive within marked lanes.

D'Amato was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled back in court Jan. 16.
