Mansfield Freight Train Fire Causes Morning Delays
Service has resumed and County Street was reopened at 12:30 p.m.

MANSFIELD, MA – It was a slow commute Tuesday morning for travelers in Mansfield following an earlier freight train fire. At one point, trains were nearly an hour behind schedule as crews responded to the blaze.
The early morning fire caused delays for commuters across the Providence Line, with many trains arriving 15-20 minutes late. North Main Street near County Street was closed as firefighters put out the blaze.
At 11:48 a.m., the firefighters had to return to the scene because the train car was reported to be smoldering again. The street was closed to allow firefighters to drag a hose across the street.
