Despite Snow Days, Mansfield Schools Not Worried About Finishing School

Unlike other communities, Mansfield is not seeking alternative options to finish school before the end of June.

Despite six snow days this year, the Mansfield Schools are not worried about cramming in the final days of school.

Superintendent Zeffro Gianetti told the school committee this week that school is set to end on June 24 with no current plans to use vacation days, holidays, or the weekends to make up snow days.

“The real issue is we have to be done by June 30. That is the last day we can go to school,” Gianetti said, referring to a stipulation in the teachers union’s contract that does not allow school to go into July.

School districts are required to schedule five snow days to be used if school is canceled to ensure 180 days of school takes place. While all the build-in days have been used, Gianetti says Mansfield has four snow days left.

“I wouldn’t be overly concerned until we use two more and then we should start considering our options,” he said.
