Suicide Attempt Closes Eddy Street
Police were able to get the man out of the house. He was taken to a hospital.

Mansfield, MA — A suicide attempt on Eddy Street led to the neighborhood being shut down for over two hours and the use of a MetroLEC team.
Sunday evening at about 5:29 p.m., an adult male at a home on the street called 911 to report his attempt to take his life. The man told the dispatcher that he was in his bedroom with a gun, wanted to shoot himself, and potentially harm others, police said.
When police arrived at the scene, the street was evacuated and closed to both vehicle and foot traffic. Officers from local departments and the MetroLEC team were also called to the scene, police said

A police investigation revealed that the man was highly intoxicated and suffered from multiple mental health issues. At 7:14 p.m., the man left his home and surrendered himself to police after nearly two hours of negotiations over the phone. Police obtained an application for a temporary involuntary hospitalization and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
No weapons were found at the home and the scene was cleared by 7:47 p.m.
