Electric Bills for Mansfield Resident to Slightly Go Up

There will not be a steep increase in rates similar to that of National Grid.

Unlike residents in other local towns, Mansfield will not see a large hike on their electric bills this winter.

Mansfield Municipal Electric Department Director Gary Babin said residents using 630-kilowatts an hour will pay 78.60 a month through December and $89.12 from January to March according to the Sun Chronicle.

Residents using 500-kilowatts an hour will pay $61.63 a month until the end of the year and $69.98 a month in January through March.

According to Town Manager William Ross, an agreement the town made several years ago which locked in the department’s power supply at a fixed price keeps the electric rates from dramatically increases. The deal has saved the town about $3 million.

Recently, National Grid announced that customers are projected to pay $33 more this winter after a rate increase, causing some panic in Mansfield concerning what would happen to the electric bills of residents.
