Man Who Stalked Mansfield Teacher At School Could Get Bail: Judge

A judge is deciding whether to grant bail a Rhode Island man accused of stalking a Mansfield teacher at two local schools.

MANSFIELD, MA — A Rhode Island doctor accused of of stalking a Mansfield teacher he used to date by breaking into two schools and placing a GPS tracker on her car may be released on bail. A Fall River Superior Court judge is reviewing a bail appeal for Tu C. Le, 43, of Woonsocket, a Brown University medical researcher charged with stalking, four counts of breaking and entering, and trespassing. Le has been held without bail since April 11.

At a court hearing Monday, Le's lawyers argued Le has never violated a restraining order against him and was not found with any weapons when he was arrested on April 6, the Sun Chronicle reported. His attorneys said their are less restrictive measures the court could take to ensure the public's safety. Prosecutors want Le held without bail for at least 120 days while they prepare their case.

According to police, Le dated the teacher for about a year before she ended the relationship. According to the teacher, Le was too controlling and would show up uninvited when she was out with friends or on dates with other men, the police report said. Police said the teacher became suspicious and found a GPS tracker on her car.

Le was arrested April 6 after police said they saw him following the woman and putting a GPS tracker on her car at the Red Roof Inn in Mansfield. Police said Le had two other GPS trackers with him. According to police, Le also tried following the woman by breaking into Qualters Middle School and Mansfield High School after school hours.

Mansfield Superintendent Teresa Murphy addressed the school security issues in an email to Patch. She said the school district identified a "vulnerability" in both buildings, and since then, both have been addressed.

"We will be even more vigilant during after-school hours at restricting access to sections of the building that are not in use and be diligent with door security," Murphy said. "Working with the Mansfield Police Department, all school security protocols are constantly being reviewed and revised."
